Jean Paul Gaultier Stop Racism Long Sleeve Shirt 1997 Autumn/Winter “Fight Racism”

The Autumn/Winter 1997 collection drew inspiration from social issues facing the globe at the time. The collection featured graffiti jacket prints, the iconic stripped three piece suits & washed leather trench coats. An key factor in the collection was the atmosphere created by the unconventional hairstyles & makeup choices, these being face tattoos such as the words "Peace", Flags & peace symbols drawn on the faces. Topics touched were those of "Racism" & "War". One of the iconic pieces from the collections was the "Flag Shearling Jacket" a stand out piece with the unforgettable flag print across the jacket. The print featured array of scattered flags including, Israeli Flags, Soviet & Union Jack. There are a few iterations of the jacket those being: "Fight Racism", Mayakovsky prints & later on a collaboration with the streetwear brand Supreme. The goal of this print was derived from the idea of protesting against the problems caused by Racism & War.
